Fences by The J Hammer Inc in the Los Angeles area

A fence is only as good as its posts

Every leaning fence has the same story: posts that were not set right. The J Hammer builds wood, vinyl and iron fences on posts set plumb in real concrete footings, so the fence you pay for stays straight for years — not one wet winter.

What we build

  • Wood fencing — privacy fences, board-on-board and picket, in cedar and other quality lumber.
  • Vinyl fencing — low-maintenance panels that shrug off our sun.
  • Iron and tube-steel — wrought-iron and metal fencing and gates, primed and painted.
  • Gates — walk gates and driveway gates, hung to swing true and latch clean.

Why ours stay straight

We dig proper post holes, set posts in concrete at the right depth for our soil, and let them cure before hanging the fence — the boring steps that decide whether a fence leans in a couple of years. Panels and pickets go up level, gates are squared and hung on solid hardware, and everything is built to handle wind and the swelling and shrinking our climate puts wood through.

Part of the yard, not an afterthought

A fence defines the property line and frames the whole yard, so we build it to complement the house and the landscape — the right height for privacy, the right style for the architecture, and clean lines that read as intentional.

Fences FAQs

How much does a fence cost?
Wood fencing runs roughly $35–$70 per linear foot, vinyl $45–$90, and iron $70–$130, with gates priced by design. Exact pricing depends on height, material and terrain.
Why do fences lean?
Almost always posts that were not set deep enough or in enough concrete. We set posts in proper footings at the right depth and let them cure before hanging the fence.
Do you build gates too?
Yes — walk gates and driveway gates, squared and hung on solid hardware so they swing true and latch clean.
Which fence material is best?
Wood for warmth and privacy, vinyl for low maintenance, iron for security and openness. We will match the material to your goals, budget and the look of the house.
